Lip Bumper
What is it?
This appliance is designed to reduce the pressure from your lips and cheeks on your lower teeth thereby creating room for the eruption of your lower adult teeth.
What do I do?
For this appliance to function properly it must be worn as instructed by Dr. Lenz. The bumper should be removed when eating and brushing your teeth. If the molar bands bother your cheeks, you can place orthodontic wax on the bands. The topical anesthetic cream can be applied to soothe any irritated areas. Warm salt water rinses are also very soothing.
Care
When your lip bumper is not being worn, place it in your case and make sure your case is in a safe place. Gently brush your lip bumper before you place it into your mouth. Brush well around the bands that are attached to your lower molars and check very carefully when you are finished brushing to make sure your teeth, gum lines and bands are sparkling clean!
Avoid all hard, sticky or chewy foods which can damage your appliance. Also avoid soda, even diet soda, and sports drinks, as these can cause discoloration and decay. Use your fluoride rinse daily throughout your orthodontic treatment.
